How to: Modify Microsoft Word Assistant templates.
Solution:
Use the 'Open' command from the 'File' menu to open a document template (.DOT) in the MSOFFICE\OFFASST directories. Use the 'Save As' command from the 'File' menu after modifying the document template.
1) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open...'. (The Open dialog box appears.)
2) Select 'Document Templates (*.dot)' from the 'List Files of Type' drop-down list box.
3) Select the location of the template to be modified by doing one of the following:
a) To modify a Microsoft Word template, select the location of the Microsoft Word templates from the 'Directories' list box.
NOTE: Usually the MSOFFICE\WINWORD\TEMPLATES directory.
b) To modify a Microsoft Word Assistant template, select the location of the Microsoft Word Assistant templates from the 'Directories' list box.
NOTE: Usually the MSOFFICE\OFFASST directory. These templates are only installed with Microsoft Office Assistant.
4) Click 'OK'. (A list of available templates in the selected directory appears.)
5) Select a template from the 'File Name' list box.
EXAMPLE: MEMO1.DOT or OANEWSLX.DOT
6) Click 'OK'.
7) Modify the template as desired.
NOTE: If editing changes cannot be made, the template may be protected. To remove the protection in order to allow modifications, select the Tools menu and select Unprotect Document.)
8) Save the modified template by doing one of the following:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save' to save the changes to the current template.
b) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save As...' to save the modified template to a new name.
1] Type a name for the new template in the 'File Name' box.
